Clutha Gold Bike & Boat
Double the fun – what a way to enjoy the Clutha Gold Trail!

Day 1:

Arrive at Lake Roxburgh Lodge, enjoy a delicious dinner and retire to a superbly comfortable bed.

Day 2:

Tuck into a continental breakfast before setting off on the newly constructed Clutha Gold Trail into Roxburgh, cycling alongside the mighty Clutha River, with its turquoise blue waters, schist rock boulders and gold dredging history. Cross the bridge into the small town of Roxburgh and meander along the main street, with its historic stone cottages and quaint Anglican Church. Retrace your steps back across the Roxburgh Bridge and carry on cycling the trail south as it winds its way through the gorgeous Teviot Valley. You can enjoy Kim’s gourmet picnic at the water’s edge on the way to the small rural township of Millers Flat (26km distance).

You now have two options:

Here you can leave pedal power behind and experience a stunning jet boat ride back to the Lodge along the Clutha River with Beaumont Jet. There is a variety of things to see along the way, including Dumbarton Rock, two sunken gold dredges and the big ripple at Pinders Pond. Make sure the driver gives you the thrill of a benchmark ‘Hamilton Turn’. And Phil will drive to Millers Flat and bring your bikes back to the Lodge.

Alternatively, you can continue along the rest of the Clutha Gold Trail, visiting the Lonely Graves romantically historic site and Horseshoe Bend Bridge, the only remaining fully restored swing bridge on the Clutha River. Then it’s through the beautiful Beaumont Gorge on the old rail corridor, ending at Beaumont (48km distance). Here’s where you climb aboard the Beaumont Jet and travel back upstream through the gorge and its breathtaking whitewater shoots and rocky outcrops. You’ll get close to the unspoiled Native Island with its rare indigenous ecosystems. And yes – experience a ‘Hamilton Turn’. Arrive at Lake Roxburgh Lodge and unwind over a delectable dinner before a restful night’s sleep. Phil will drive to Beaumont and bring your bikes back.

Day 3:

Enjoy a freshly prepared seasonal breakfast before departing for your onward journey.
